Unanchored-Roots - Matthew Cahill

Matthew Cahill Unanchored Roots Driftwood & natural fiber rope $200 This installation is constructed from driftwood found on a beach in Chatham, MA. After being exposed to the harsh elements of wind and sea, these pieces of driftwood caught my eye and I was inspired to join them, replicating the form of an anchor. An amalgamation of wood and ideas, this piece is crafted from a buoyant material and looks like a heavy object. The wood has been dramatically displaced from its original home atop a sand dune as a healthy tree, and now hangs in the air, making us think about erosion, and humankind’s destruction of the natural world.
