I move slowly, though I am in many places at once–in the oceans, the cities, farms and supermarkets. I may be brightly colored and appear playful, but I do most of my damage invisibly. I am everywhere but belong nowhere. What am I? Imposing and daunting, plastics intrude in our lives. Packaged products, plastic containers, and mesh netting quietly consume our landfills, oceans, and rivers. They swarm and regroup in great numbers. Like hungry caterpillars that leave their footprint, not as beautiful beings, but as creatures that slowly transform their environment.
