Charlie Smith | Low-fire stoneware ceramic | $650 Inquiries: artonthetrails@gmail.com | This piece is an homage to the ladder, a tribute to the working class, and a warning to avoid the pitfalls that can trap us in unhealthy cycles. The piece references the religious symbolism of the number 9 - such as the Buddhist Nine Consciousness and the Christian 9 Fruits of Life - as nods to the monastic dedication that it takes to gain upward social mobility. Whether following a theistic code or not, stability and mobility hinge on one’s ability to live by a code and find joy and purpose in their work and life.
