7. HMS Circle Dance
Julie Nussbaum | Ceramics, reeds, caning, mud, acrylics, and metal wires | $3,100 Inquiries: artonthetrails@gmail.com | HMS Circle Dance refers to the waggle or round dances bees do to communicate about available food sources. The Greek Apollodorus tells of infant Zeus given to the care of the nymphs Adrasteia and Ida, daughters of Melisseus, god of beekeepers. The child Zeus is to be raised on milk and honey. Adrasteia, Inevitable Fate, embraces the idea of communicating with her bees so seamlessly that she becomes one of them. Her cosplay of wings and thorax vacillates between built-ins and impermanent. She is already a maker at this tender age.
