This work is a data visualization that utilizes a grid structure to reference a calendar year. The precise squares cut from botanical material provide data while also creating a dynamic composition of color, texture, and movement. The methodical pace of the grid allows for each block to communicate time (month and day), temperature (daily high or low), and precipitation (triangles for rain, dot grid for snow). The tight alignment of a grid enables moments of juxtaposition, highlighting major temperature shifts or focusing viewer attention on the directionality, veining, and essential visual quality of the botanical material.
